8 MW Kathai-II Hydro

Kathai-II Hydro (Pvt.) Limited, a special purpose entity, is developing an 8 MW small hydropower project located on Kathai Nullah in District Jhelum Valley, Azad Jammu and Kashmir (the “Project”).

The Project is a high-head, run-of-river scheme and is expected to be one of the pioneering small hydropower plants to be commissioned in the private sector. It is currently one of the few projects to have reached an advanced stage of development. The Company has been issued Letter of Support (“LOS”) by the Private Power and Infrastructure Board (“PPIB”) on November 20, 2019.

Various other development milestones have been completed including the tariff determination by the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (“NEPRA”) and approvals for grid interconnection study, power evacuation and power purchase. Key upcoming milestones include selection of EPC contractor and execution of concession and financing documents for Financial Close.

From Islamabad to Muzaffarabad via Murree-Kohala Highway (130 km), from Muzaffarabad to Chinari via Muzaffarabad-Chakothi dual carriageway (42 km) and from Chinari to project weir site via single lane track (8 km).
